제목: 환난 중에도 흔들림 없는 신앙

그들이 그를 죽이려 할 때에 온 예루살렘이 요란하다는 소문이 군대의 천부장에게 들리매 그가 급히 군인들과 백부장들을 거느리고 달려 내려가니 그들이 천부장과 군인들을 보고 바울 치기를 그치는지라(행21:31-32)
사도행전 강해 80번째 시간입니다. 사도행전 21-26장 까지에는 사도 바울이 예루살렘으로 올라가서 당하는 고초가 나옵니다. 특별히 오늘 본문은 아시아로부터 온 유대인들이 무리를 충동질하여 바울이 이방인 드로비모를 성전에 데리고 들어감으로써 성전을 더럽혔다고 하는 어처구니 없는 누명을 씌어 유대인들에게 붙잡혀 매를 맞고 죽음의 위기에 놓였을 때 다행히 천부장의 도움으로 어려움에서 벗어난 사건을 기록하고 있습니다.
1. 선동하는 방법은 절대로 하나님의 방법이 아니다: 사도 바울이 예루살렘으로 가는 길에 어려움이 있다는 경고를 여러 번 받았습니다. 성령께서 주위의 여러 믿음의 사람들을 통하여 환난과 결박이 있음을 여러 차례 가르쳐 주셨습니다. 그럼에도 불구하고 바울은 예루살렘으로 올라 갑니다. 여기서 우리는 바울이 가치 있는 인생을 살 수 있었던 소중한 삶의 원칙을 한 가지 발견하게 되는데 그것을 바울은 항상 쉬운 길이 아니라 바른 길을 가려고 하였다는 것입니다.
그래서 실제로 예루살렘에 갔더니 어떤 일이 벌어졌습니까? 본문 27-31절에 보면 바울이 잡혔습니다. 당시 사도 바울에게 유대인들이 덮어 씌운 죄목은 두 가지입니다. 하나는 바울이 모세의 율법과 정면으로 배치된 자라는 것입니다(21절) 또 하나는 이방인들을 성전에 데려감으로써 하나님의 성전을 더럽게 했다는 것입니다(29절) 이 죄는 유대교에서는 사형에 해당하는 죄입니다(31절) 이 때 마귀의 방법은 충동, 선동이었습니다(27-28절)
왜 선동합니까? 가짜이기 때문에 선동합니다. 진리는 선동할 필요가 없습니다. 그러므로 진리를 붙들고 있는 많은 백성들이 놓치지 말아야 될 귀중한 것이 있습니다. 그것은 예수 믿는 우리가 사용할 것은 결코 선동이나 충동의 방법이 아니라는 것입니다. 하나님의 말씀은 진리이기 때문에 말씀을 신실하게 증거하기만 해도 그 말씀은 살았고 운동력이 있기 때문에 말씀이 모든 것을 뒤집어 놓습니다. 그러나 가짜들은 가짜이기 때문에 선동하게 되어 있습니다.
잊지 마십시요. 선동하는 방법은 절대로 하나님의 방법이 아닙니다. 선동하니까 동조자가 생겼습니다. 마귀는 외롭지 않습니다. 악한 자의 주위에는 악을 행하겠다 하는 사람들이 모여듭니다(30절) 진짜는 시끄럽지 않습니다. 잘 보세요. 시내산에 올라갔던 모세, 하나님 만났을 때 시끄럽지 않았습니다. 그런데 밑에 있는 금송아지 우상 섬기는 사람들 춤추고 뛰고 난리를 칩니다. 가짜이기 때문에 억지를 부리고 난리를 치는 것입니다. 그래서 진짜는 오히려 어려운 상황을 즐깁니다. 진짜는 어려움을 피하지 아니하고 그 위기가 진짜임을 증명하는 도구가 됩니다. 바울을 보십시요. 오히려 이 어려움과 위기를 전도의 기회로 삼습니다(37-40절) 이게 성도의 모습입니다.
2. 흔들림이 없는 이유: 바울이 지금 죽음의 위기에 처하게 되었습니다. 그런데 그런 상황 속에서도 두려워하거나 살려고 발버둥치지 않았습니다. 오히려 로마 군인들에게 붙잡혀 가면서도 천부장에게 자기를 죽이려하는 유대인들에게 말을 좀 하게 해달라고 부탁을 하면서 전도의 기회로 삼습니다. 어떻게 이런 일이 가능합니까? 그것은 바울이 마음의 준비를 하고 있었기 때문입니다. 이미 성령님으로부터 예루살렘에 가면 결박과 환난을 당하리라는 말씀을 들어서 마음의 준비를 하고 있었기 때문입니다.
우리도 마찬가지입니다. 마음의 준비가 되어 있으면 이 땅을 살아 가는 동안에 환난이 오거나 어려움이 와도 바울처럼 담대한 마음을 가지고 문제에 직면할 수 있습니다. 마5:11-12에서 예수님께서도 분명히 말씀하셨습니다. “나로 말미암아 너희를 욕하고 박해하고 거짓으로 너희를 거슬러 모든 악한 말을 할 때에는 너희에게 복이 있나니 기뻐하고 즐거워하라 하늘에서 너희의 상이 큼이라” 그러므로 우리가 예수님 때문에, 믿음 때문에 누구로부터 욕을 먹고 어려움을 당하면 “아! 이런 일도 있을 거라 그러셨어” 하며 이상하게 생각할게 아니라는 것입니다. 왜요! 예수님이 이런 일이 있을 것을 이미 말씀하셨기 때문입니다. 성경은 “무릇 그리스도 예수 안에서 경건하게 살고자 하는 자는 박해를 받으리라”(딤후3:12)말씀합니다.
잊지 마십시요. 힘들고 고생스럽다고 다 저주가 아닙니다. 편안한 삶이 꼭 복이 아닙니다. 우리가 하나님의 말씀을 결론 삼아야 바로 살 수 있습니다. 사도 바울은 진리의 말씀으로 마음의 준비가 되어 있었기 때문에 결정적인 순간에 도망하거나 추한 모습을 보이지 않고 더사명의 자리로 나아갈 수 있었던 것입니다. 결국 바울이 넘어졌습니까? 넘어지지 않았습니다. 34절에 보니까 유대인들에게 맞아 죽을 뻔한 그 때에 천부장이 나타나서 바울을 잡아가 버렸습니다. 이것이 하나님이 우리를 보호하시는 하나님의 방법입니다.
그러므로 우리가 어느 길을 가든지 바른 길, 주님의 뜻을 따르는 길에 서있으면 하나님께서 강한 손길로 보호하여 주십니다. 하나님께서는 하나님의 택한 백성들, 양떼를 보호하기 위해서 어떤 때는 천부장과 같은 양 지키는 개를 (shepherd dog) 풀어가지고 오히려 지켜주십니다.
말씀을 마칩니다: 선동으로 일하지 마십시요. 선동은 하나님의 일하시는 방법이 아닙니다. 진짜 신앙은 위기에서 오히려 드러납니다. 진짜는 어려움을 피하는게 아니고 오히려 진짜임을 증명하는 도구로 삼습니다. 진짜 신앙은 자기 신앙을 드러낼 수 있는 기회가 됩니다.

Title: The Faith that is not shaken Under Hardships

As they were trying to kill him, word reached the commander of the Roman regiment that all Jerusalem was in an uproar. He immediately called out his soldiers and officers and ran down among the crowd. When the mob saw the commander and the troops coming, they stopped beating Paul. (Acts 21:31-32 – NLT)
Today is the 80th series of the Book of Acts. Acts chapters 21 to 26, shows the hardships that apostle Paul faced when he came to Jerusalem. In particular, today’s scriptures records the story of how some Jews from the province of Asia stirred up the crowd by falsely accusing Paul of bringing Greeks into the temple area, like Trophimus and by doing so, defiling the holy place. So the Jews seized him and beat him. But just when they were about to kill him, fortunately the commander of the Roman troops arrived to the scene, and had him carried out of the violent crowd.
1. The incitement method is by no means God’s way: Apostle Paul has been warned several times that there would be difficulties on his way to Jerusalem. The Holy Spirt let Paul know through many people of faith around him, that there would be prison and hardships waiting for him, including being bound in chains. Nevertheless, Paul still went to Jerusalem. Here we can find one of the valuable principles of life in which Paul was able to live a worthy life. It was that Paul always tried to go the right way, not the easy way.
So what actually happened to him when he went to Jerusalem? If we looks at verses 27-31, Paul was seized. There were two charges brought against apostle Paul at that time. One was that Paul violated the Law of Moses (verse 21). Another one was that he had defiled the temple of God by taking the Gentiles to the temple (verse 29). In Judaism, this is considered a sin that deserves death (verse 31). Satan was trying to stir up the crowd and use agitation as its method (verses 27-28).
Why did they agitate? They got agitated because what they were doing was false. Truth does not need to be provoked. Therefore, there is a precious thing that many of us who hold onto the truth should not miss. It is that, we as believers of Jesus Christ should not use the method of agitation. Since the Word of God is truth, even if we testify the Word faithfully, the Word is alive and there is mobility, so the Word of God changes everything. But the fakes are fake, so that is why they stir up things and become agitated.
Please do not forget. The method of instigation is by no means the method of God. Since they were agitated, they gathered bad partners. The devil is not lonely. People who do evil gather around those evil people (verse 30). But the truth is not noisy. Take a good look carefully. It was not noisy when Moses went up Mount Sinai to meet God. However, the people who were serving and worshiping the gold calf idol underneath, were loud and noisy while dancing around. It was because the idol was fake, that they make such a loud and unnatural commotion. Therefore, the truth rather enjoys the difficult situation. The truth does not avoid difficulties but uses it as a tool to prove that the crisis is real. Take a look at Paul. He took the difficulties and crises he was in as an opportunity for evangelism (verses 37-40).
2. Reason for not being shaken: Paul was in danger of death. However, even in such circumstances, he was not afraid or tried to struggle to live. Rather, he asked the commander if he could speak to the Jews who were trying to kill him. He took it as an opportunity to evangelize them. How was this possible? It was because Paul had prepared his mind. He already knew through the Holy Spirit that he would face hardships, and thus he had his mind prepared.
Similarly, it is the same with us. If your mind is prepared, you can boldly face troubles or difficulties while living on this earth like with a bold mind that Paul did. Jesus said clearly in Matthew 5:11-12a, “God blesses you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you and say all sorts of evil things against you because you are my followers. Be happy about it! Be very glad! For a great reward awaits you in heaven.” Therefore, when we face difficulties because of Jesus or because of our faith, we should say, “Oh right, He said these things will happen.” As such, we should not think of it as strange. Why is this so? It is because Jesus already told us that these things would happen. The Bible says, “Yes, and everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.” (2 Timothy 3:12).
Please do not forget. Just because something is hard or painful does not make it necessarily a curse. A comfortable life is not always a blessing. When we keep God’s Word we can live. Since Paul’s mind was prepared by the truth of God’s Words, he did not try to escape in the crucial moment or show an ugly attitude. But instead, he moved closer to the missionary place. Did Paul eventually fall? No, he did not fall. In verse 34, when he was about to die from being beaten by the Jews, the commander of the troops came and took him away. This is God’s way of protecting us.
Therefore, whichever path we take, if we stand on the right path, following the Lord’s will, God will protect us with a strong hand. God protects the chosen people of God. In order to protect the sheep, He sometimes releases the shepherd’s dog, like the commander, in order to protect the flock.
Concluding the sermon: Please do not work with agitation. Agitation is not the way God works. True faith is rather revealed in a crisis. The real thing does not avoid difficulties, but rather uses it as a tool to prove the real. True faith is an opportunity to reveal your faith.
