제목: 하나님의 뜻에 대한 오해

바울이 대답하되 여러분이 어찌하여 울어 내 마음을 상하게 하느냐 나는 주 예수의 이름을 위하여 결박 당할 뿐 아니라 예루살렘에서 죽을 것도 각오하였노라 하니 그가 권함을 받지 아니하므로 우리가 주의 뜻대로 이루어지이다 하고 그쳤노라(행21:13-14)
사도행전 강해 78번째 시간입니다. 오늘부터 살펴보는 사도행전 21장부터 26장까지에는 사도 바울이 예루살렘으로 올라가서 당하는 고초가 나옵니다. 그런데 바울이 당하는 이 어려움과 고초는 바울이 스스로 선택한 길입니다. 오늘 우리는 뻔히 결박과 환난이 기다리는 길임을 알고서도 그 길을 걸어 가는 바울의 모습을 통해서 우리에게 맡겨진 사명의 길을 걸어가기 위해서 붙들어야 할 참된 신앙이 무엇인가 살펴보고자 합니다.
1. 쉬운 길이 아니라 바른 길을 가야 됩니다: 바울은 밀레도에서 에베소 교회의 장로들에게 고별 설교를 마친 후 고스, 로드, 바다라를 거쳐서 베니게의 두로에 도착하여 일주일간 머뭅니다. 그리고 바울은 두로를 떠나 돌레마이에서 하루 동안 휴식을 취한 후 이튿날 그곳을 떠나 가이사랴에 도착을 하여 일곱 집사 중의 하나인 빌립 집사의 집에서 머무릅니다. 그것이 오늘 본문 1-8절까지의 내용입니다.
그런데 우리는 이 바울의 전도 여행을 바라보면서 바울이 얼마나 복음을 증거하는 일에 힘을 기울였던 것을 알 수가 있습니다. 바울은 발걸음이 닿는 곳마다 복음 증거하는 일을 멈추지 않았습니다. 두로에 도착해서 바울이 제일 먼저 행한 일은 그 곳에 있는 제자들을 찾는 것이었습니다(4절) 그리고 돌레마이에 하루를 머무를 때에도 형제들을 찾아 안부를 묻고 함께 유합니다(7절) 바울은 오직 예수 그리스도의 복음에만 관심이 있었던 것입니다. 우리는 너무나 세상에 관심이 많습니다. 마귀는 할 수만 있으면 우리의 마음을 막고 우리의 발을 막고 못 가게 합니다. 여러가지 이유를 됩니다. 그러나 복음을 위해 발이 움직일 때 그것이 살아 있는 신앙이고 진짜 복된 인생입니다. 우리 모두도 우리의 발걸음이 복음 증거하는 현장 속에 서있는 발걸음이 되는 거룩한 하나님의 종들이 되시기를 바랍니다.
그런데 오늘 본문에 보니까 바울이 예루살렘에 올라 가면 큰 어려움을 당한다는 경고가 여러 사람을 통해서 반복되고 있습니다. 본문 4절에 보니까 두로에 있는 제자들이 바울이 예루살렘에 가면 사로잡히게 될 것이라는 사실을 알려 주었습니다. 또 10-12절에 보면 아가보라고 하는 선지자가 바울이 어떻게 결박당하고 어려움을 당할지를 구체적으로 보여 주며 적극적으로 만류했습니다. 그런데 우리가 주목해 보아야 될 것이 무엇인가? 하면 그들이 믿음 없는 사람들이 아니라 모두 성령 충만한 사람들이었다 라는 것입니다.
그런데도 바울은 13절에 보니까 내가 몰라서 가는 것이 아니라 알고 가는 것이니까 “울지 말라고, 내 마음을 약하게 하지 말라”고 하며 끝내 예루살렘으로 떠납니다. 그러니까 그제서야 비로서 제자들이 더 이상 바울의 길을 막지 않습니다. 여기에서 우리는 바울이 가치 있는 인생을 살 수 있었던 그의 신앙을 한 가지 발견할 수 있는데 그것은 바울은 항상 쉬운 길이 아니라 바른 길을 가려고 애쓴 사람 이였다는 것입니다. 그래서 바울은 이렇게 고백합니다. “바울이 대답하되 여러분이 어찌하여 울어 내 마음을 상하게 하느냐 나는 주 예수의 이름을 위하여 결박 당할 뿐 아니라 예루살렘에서 죽을 것도 각오하였노라 하니”
우리도 하나님 앞에 이런 길을 가야 합니다. 바울에게 있어서는 자신의 생명보다 더 소중한 것이 있었는데 그것은 “주의 뜻”이었습니다. 우리도 이 땅을 살아갈 때 많은 선택과 결정이 있습니다. 어떤 길을 걸어 가야 하겠습니까? 쉬운 길이 아닙니다. 옳은 길, 바른 길, 주님이 기뻐하시는 길을 가야 합니다. 그런데 우리가 빠지기 쉬운 함정이 무엇입니까? 사실 인생을 살다 보면 너무 많은 어렵고 험난한 일이 있습니다. 그럴 때 우리는 이 길이 쉽냐 어렵냐, 고생스러우냐 편하냐를 먼저 따집니다. 그래서 하나님의 뜻을 분별하기가 참 어려운 것입니다. 어떤 길이라 할지라도 주님 따라 가는 길이 잘 되는 길이고 그 길이 복 있는 길입니다.
2. 신령한 은사의 바른 사용: 이처럼 성령께서 당시 많은 사람들에게 사도 바울이 예루살렘에 올라가면 결박과 환난 당할 것을 알려 주셨습니다. 그런데 이 성령께서 주신 하나님의 계획과 뜻을 이해하는 바른 접근 방법이 오늘 본문에 대조적으로 잘 나와 있습니다. 먼저 8-9절을 보면 초대 교회 일곱 집사 중의 하나인 빌립에게 딸 넷이 있었는데 그 딸들이 모두 처녀로 예언하는 자라고 성경은 말하고 있습니다. 그런데 그 빌립의 딸들이 바울의 미래에 대해서 예언했다는 언급이 전혀 없습니다.
우리에게 주시는 메시지가 무엇입니까? 예언의 은사도 하나님이 주시는 소중한 은사라 예언 자체가 문제가 될 수 없지만 조심하라는 것입니다. 예언의 은사를 통해서 미래의 일을 하나님이 알게 해 주셨을 때 해석을 어떻게 하며 어떻게 적용하느냐가 대단히 중요하다 라는 것입니다. 자칫 잘못하면 그 귀중한 은사가 오히려 하나님의 뜻을 가로막을 수 있다는 것입니다. 선을 넘으면 하나님이 가장 싫어하는 죄를 범하는 점장이가 될 수 있다는 것입니다. 그래서 예언을 받은 사람은 그 다음 단계가 더 중요합니다. 그러므로 예언 기도하는 것도 조심해야 하고, 예언 기도를 받는 것도 조심해야 합니다.
우리가 잊어서는 안되는 것은 하나님은 우리가 점치는 것 같은 행위를 결코 기뻐하시지 않으신다 라는 것입니다. 미래를 미리 알려 주고 점치는 행위를 기뻐하시지 않으신다 라는 것입니다. 예언의 은사는 사람들에게 자기가 받은 은사를 과시하려는 유혹에 빠지게 하기 쉽습니다. 그러므로 예언은 기도의 사명, 중보의 사명으로 기도와 연결시키시는 것이 가장 지혜로운 일입니다.
말씀을 마칩니다: 우리도 어떤 길을 걸어 가야 할지 분별하기 힘들 때가 있습니다. 그럴 때 단순하게 편한 길이냐, 어려운 길이냐로 판단해서는 안됩니다. 힘들고 어려워도 사명 감당하는 길이 바른 길이요, 비록 십자가의 길이라도 주님 인도하시는 길이 복된 길입니다.

Title: The Misunderstanding about God’s Will

‘But he said, “Why all this weeping? You are breaking my heart! I am ready not only to be jailed at Jerusalem but even to die for the sake of the Lord Jesus.” When it was clear that we couldn’t persuade him, we gave up and said, “The Lord’s will be done.”’ (Acts 21:13-14 – NLT)
Today is the 78th series of the Book of Acts. From Acts chapter 21, which we will be looking at today to Acts chapter 26, the sufferings that apostle Paul faced in Jerusalem are revealed. However, Paul himself made the choice to suffer through these difficulties and hardships. Today, we will look what is the true faith that we should hold onto in order to walk in the path of mission entrusted to us. We will do so by looking at Paul who walked on that road even despite clearly knowing that hardships and persecutions were awaiting for him.
1. We must go to the right path, not the easy path: In Miletus, Paul finished his farewell sermon to the elders of the church in Ephesus. He then passed through Cos, Rhodes, and Patara and landed at Tyre in Phoenica, where he stayed for seven days. After he left Tyre, he landed at Ptolemais, where he stayed with the brothers for a day. Leaving the next day, he reached Caesarea and stayed at the house of Philip the evangelist, one of the Seven (deacons). That is the content of today’s scriptures from verses 1 to 8.
Through Paul’s evangelism journey, we can see how much effort he put into proclaiming the gospel. Paul did not stop witnessing the gospel everywhere he went. The first thing Paul did when he landed at Tyre was to find the disciples there (verse 4). And even when he stayed in Ptolemais, he asked for his brothers and stayed with them (verse 7). Apostle Paul’s interest was only in the gospel of Christ. We have so much interest in the world. Satan tries as much as possible to block our minds and prevent us from doing missions by giving us various reasons. But when our feet move for the gospel, that is what represents a living faith and a true blessed life. I hope that as servants of the Holy God, our steps will also become steps in the field of proclaiming the gospel.
However, in today’s scriptures, many people continuously warned Paul about the great difficulty he would face if he went to Jerusalem. In verse 4, the disciples in Tyre told Paul that he would get captured if he went to Jerusalem. In verses 10 to 12, a prophet named Agabus clearly showed Paul how he would be prisoned and face difficulties and as such, they actively pleaded with Paul not to go to Jerusalem. But what is it that we should pay attention to? It is that these people were not people without faith, but people who were all filled with the Holy Spirit.
However, Paul said in verse 13, that he was not going to Jerusalem without being aware of the hardships he would face, but that he was already aware of it too. So he said to them, “Why all this weeping? You are breaking my heart!” And after that, he left for Jerusalem. That is why his disciples no longer stopped Paul’s way. From this we can find out one of the reasons why Paul was able to live a valuable life from his faith. It was because Paul did not always choose to take the easy paths, but instead he was a person who sought to go the right way. Therefore, Paul confessed, “Why all this weeping? You are breaking my heart! I am ready not only to be jailed at Jerusalem but even to die for the sake of the Lord Jesus.”
Similarly, we too must go on this path before God. For Paul, there was something more precious than his life, and that was “the will of the Lord“. We too, have many choices and decisions to make when we live on this earth. Which way should we take? It is not the easy way. But we must go the right way, the way that is pleasing to the Lord. But what is the trap that we can easily fall into? In fact, as we live our lives, we find that it is hard and that there are many difficulties. During those times, we first try to assess whether the path will be easy or difficult. That is why it is very difficult for us to discern God’s will. No matter what the way is, the way following the Lord is the road that will make things go well and is the blessed way.
2. Proper use of spiritual gifts: The Holy Spirit revealed to many people at that time that apostle Paul would be prisoned and face hardships when he went to Jerusalem. But the right approach to understanding the plan and the will of God given by the Holy Spirit is well presented comparatively in today’s scriptures. First, if we look in verses 8 to 9, the Bible says that Philip, one of the seven deacons of the early church, had four unmarried daughters, who prophesied. However, there is no mention that the daughters of Philip prophesied about Paul’s future.
What is the message God is giving to us? The gift of prophecy is also a precious gift from God. Thus, prophecy itself cannot be a problem, but we must still be careful. When God has revealed the future through prophecy, it is very important of how to interpret and apply the interpretation. By mistake, we may end up using the precious gift of prophesying to block and interfere with God’s will. If we cross the line, we may become a fortune teller who commits the sin that God hates the most. So the next step is more important for those who have received the prophecy. Therefore, we must be careful of prophecy prayer and also be careful of receiving prophecy prayer.
We must not forget that God is never pleased with us for using prophesy to do fortune-telling. He is not pleased when we use the future He told us in advance for fortune-telling. The gift of prophecy is easy to tempt people to show off their gifts. Therefore, the wisest thing is to link prophesying with prayer, mission, and intercessory mission.
Concluding the sermon: Sometimes it is hard for us to discern which way to walk. During those times, we must not try to judge whether it is the easy way or difficult way. Even though it may be difficult, the road to fulfilling the mission is the right way. And even if it is the way of the cross, the way led by the Lord is the blessed way.
