제목: 하나님께 쓰임을 받는 사람의 모습

바울이 이르되 형제들아 나는 그가 대제사장인 줄 알지 못하였노라 기록하였으되 너의 백성의 관리를 비방하지 말라 하였느니라 하더라(행23:5)
사도행전 강해 82번째 시간입니다. 오늘 본문은 사도 바울이 로마 시민권을 내세워 큰 위기를 모면하고 나서 천부장의 조치에 의해 공회 앞에서 자신을 변호할 기회를 제공받아 또 한번 담대히 그리스도를 증거할 기회를 얻는 모습을 내용으로 하고 있습니다. 이 변론하는 바울의 모습을 통해서 성경이 우리에게 주는 귀중한 삶의 교훈을 함께 나누고자 합니다.
1. 잘못을 즉각 회개하는 겸손함이 믿음입니다: 바울은 변론의 기회가 주어지자 “나는 범사에 양심을 따라 하나님을 섬겼노라”(1절) 라고 고백하며 변론을 시작합니다. 그랬더니 바울의 이 말에 대제사장 아나니아가 기분이 상해서 바울의 입을 치라고 명합니다(2절) 이 말을 듣는 순간 바울 역시 한치도 양보하지 않고 “회칠한 담이여 하나님이 너를 치시리로다”(3절) 하며 맞받아 쳤습니다.
이것을 보면 바울도 성격이 대단합니다. 그러면서 “네가 나를 율법대로 심판한다고 앉아서 율법을 어기고 나를 치라 하느냐”(3절) 하며 항의를 하였습니다. 틀린 말은 아닙니다. 그런데 “회칠한 담이여” 억울하다고 이런 말을 쓰는 것을 보면 바울도 성질이 있는 사람입니다. 그랬더니 주변에 있던 사람들이 어떻게 반응합니까? “곁에 선 사람들이 말하되 하나님의 대제사장을 네가 욕하느냐”(4절) 하며 대제사장에게 맞서는 바울의 태도를 못마땅하게 여깁니다.
그러자 이 말을 들은 바울이 어떤 모습을 보입니까? 이것이 오늘 우리가 바울로부터 배워야 할 삶의 소중한 교훈입니다. 5절을 보시면 “바울이 이르되 형제들아 나는 그가 대제사장인 줄 알지 못하였노라 기록하였으되 너의 백성의 관리를 비방하지 말라 하였느니라”하며 출22:28에 있는 “너는 재판장을 모독하지 말며 백성의 지도자를 저주하지 말지니라” 하는 이 말씀을 기억해내고 순식간에 자기의 태도를 바꾸어서 자신의 잘못을 인정하며 시인하는 모습을 보입니다.
이것을 보면 바울이 얼마나 말씀을 잘 알고 있었는지를 알 수 있습니다. 또 그 말씀을 그대로 삶에 적용하며 그 말씀에 의해 순종하며 움직이는 것을 봅니다. 바울은 자기에게 유리할 때만 말씀을 적용하는 것이 아니라 불리한 경우에도 그대로 적용했습니다. 이처럼 바울에게는 하나님의 말씀 앞에서 자기 자신의 잘못을 즉각 인정하며 회개하는 겸손함이 있었습니다.
이것이 바로 하나님께 쓰임 받는 사람의 공통적인 특징입니다. 하나님의 사람은 잘못을 깨달았을 때에 핑계대지 않습니다. 잘못했을 때의 정답은 잘못했다고 시인하는 것입니다. 여러분! 죄보다 더 무서운 것은 우리가 회개하지 않는 것입니다. 얼마나 많은 목회자와 성도가 그리고 교회가 이 함정에 빠져 무너지고 있는지 모릅니다. 잊지 마십시요. 소돔과 고모라 성의 멸망의 원인은 죄 때문이지만, 더 정확한 성경적인 접근은 의인 10명이 없었기 때문임을 우리는 알아야 합니다. “sorry”가 믿음입니다.
2. 하나님께로부터 온 권세를 인정하는 것이 믿음입니다: 바울이 대제사장이라는 권세를 인정합니다(5절) 이렇게 권세를 인정하는 것이 참 중요합니다. 요즘 가정이 무너진다고 하는데 가정에서 부모의 권위를 인정하지 않기 때문에 그렇습니다. 지금 많은 가정들이 무너지는 이유가 무엇이냐? 그 핵심은 무엇보다 각 가정마다 아버지의 권위가 상실되었기 때문에 이 아버지의 권위 상실이 곧 가정의 붕괴로 이어진 것입니다. 또 이 시대에 학교가 왜 무너졌습니까? 선생님의 권위를 무너뜨렸기 때문입니다. 전화로 신고만 하면 구속하고… 그 결과 선생님이 무너지는 것이 아니라 학교가 무너졌습니다. 그 결과 사회의 모든 질서가 파괴되고 화평과 아름다움이 상실되어 가고 있는 것입니다.
잊지 마십시요. 이 세상이 온전하게 서기 위해서는 무너졌던 권위, 권세들을 하나씩 세워 가야 합니다. 그럴 때 이 땅에 하나님이 세우신 질서의 회복으로 말미암아 하나님이 기뻐하시는 아름다운 세상이 될 것입니다. 왜냐하면 모든 권위는 위에 계신 하나님께서 주신 것이기 때문입니다(롬13:1-2) 그리고 권위가 잘못되었을 때 그리스도인들이 취해야 할 태도는 폭력과 혁명이 아니라 선으로 악을 갚는 것이 하나님의 방법이라는 것을 우리는 알아야 합니다. 잘못이 있을 때 비판할 수 있지만 그러나 인격은 상하게 해서는 안됩니다. 이것이 성도의 바른 삶의 모습입니다.
3. 사도 바울의 적을 이용하는 지혜: 지금 바울이 대단히 어려운 형편에 있습니다. 사람들이 바울을 죽이려고 벼루는 상황입니다. 그런데 6절에 보니까 바울에게 하나님이 주시는 지혜가 있음을 보게 됩니다. 바울이 지금 자기를 공격하는 무리를 유심히 보니까 한쪽은 사두개인, 또 한쪽은 바리새인입니다. 사두개인은 요즘식으로 말하면 자유주의 신학자들로 모세오경 외에는 부활도, 천사도, 내세도 안 믿는 현실주의적 종교인들입니다. 반면에 바리새인들은 경건주의자들로써 너무 지나치게 율법을 지킬려고 하다가 오히려 외식에 빠져서 형식에 메인 사람들이지만 그래도 믿는 것에 대해서는 정통에 가까운 사람들이었습니다.
그런데 바울은 자기도 바리새인이라고 얘기하면서 내가 핍박당하는 이유가 뭐냐 하면 부활을 믿기 때문이다 라고 말하여 그들 가운데 자중지란이 일어나게 만들었습니다(6-10) 바울은 그런 지혜를 가지고 접근했습니다. 그러므로 비록 적이라고 할지라도 적개심을 불러 일으키는 것보다는 적이라도 존경하고 인정하다 보면 오히려 문제 해결의 길이 될 수 있다는 것입니다. 이 바울의 지혜를 배우시기 바랍니다.
말씀을 마칩니다: 바울처럼 잘못을 인정하는 겸손함도 배워야 하고 위로부터 내려오는 권세를 인정할 줄 아는 것도 중요하고 적을 비난하기 보다는 적을 약화시키는 지혜를 배울 때 위기를 오히려 자기 성장의 기회와 축복으로 변화시키는 믿음의 종들이 될 줄 믿습니다.
The Characteristics of People Who Are Used by God

Title: The Characteristics of People Who Are Used by God

“I’m sorry, brothers. I didn’t realize he was the high priest,” Paul replied, “for the Scriptures say, ‘You must not speak evil of any of your rulers.’” (Acts 23:5 – NLT)
Today is the 82nd series of the Book of Acts. Today’s scriptures is about how apostle Paul once again boldly witnessed Christ, when he was given the opportunity to defend himself in front of the Sanhedrin after the commander brought Paul before them. This occurred after Paul mentioned about his Roman citizenship and was able to pass a huge crisis. We will share a valuable life lesson that the Bible gives us through apostle Paul’s argument.
1. Faith is humility that instantly repents wrongdoings: Paul began his defense by confessing, “Brothers, I have always lived before God with a clear conscience!” (Verse 1). At this, the high priest Ananias ordered for Paul to be strike on the mouth (verse 2). But when Paul heard this, he did not give up at once and said, “God will slap you, you corrupt hypocrite!” (Verse 3). He reacted emotionally to him right away.
When we look at this, we can tell that Paul’s personality is very strong. Then he said, “What kind of judge are you to break the law yourself by ordering me struck like that?” (Verse 3). This is not a wrong statement. Paul said, “You corrupt hypocrite!” because of the unfair situation he was in. However, this statement indicates that Paul had a temper. How did the people around him react to this? It says, “Those standing near Paul said to him, ‘Do you dare to insult God’s high priest?’” (Verse 4). So they disliked Paul’s attitude toward the high priest.
How did Paul respond to this when he heard this? This is the precious lesson of life that we must learn from Paul today. In verse 5, Paul said, “I’m sorry, brothers. I didn’t realize he was the high priest,” Paul replied, “for the Scriptures say, ‘You must not speak evil of any of your rulers.’ ” Following this, he remembered that in Exodus 22:28 it said, “You must not dishonor God or curse any of your rulers.” So he immediately changed his attitude and admitted his mistakes.
This shows how much Paul knew of God’s Words. He also applied the Word of God to his life, obeyed it and moved according to it. Paul did not apply the Word only when it was beneficial to him, but he applied it even when it was disadvantageous. Thus, Paul had the humility to acknowledge and repent of his own faults before the Word of God.
This is a common characteristic of those who are used by God. The people of God do not try to excuse themselves when they have realized they have done wrong. The correct answer when we do wrong is to admit that we did wrong. Everyone! What is more scary than sin is when we do not repent. I do not know how many pastors, saints, and churches are falling into this trap. Please do not forget. Although the cause of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah was because of sin, the more accurate biblical approach is because of the lack of ten righteous people. “Sorry” is faith.
2. Faith is to acknowledge the authority that comes from God: Paul acknowledged the authority of the high priest (verse 5). Like this, it is important to acknowledge authority. Families are collapsing nowadays because they do not acknowledge the authority of the parents. What is the reason of why so many families are collapsing right now? The key reason above all is because of the loss of authority of the father in each family, which has led to a broken family. Also, why are schools of this generation collapsing? It is because the authority of the teachers are broken. Phone calls are reported to make arrests. As a result, it is not the teacher who collapses, but the school that collapses. Furthermore, all order of society is destroyed and peace and beauty are lost.
Please do not forget. In order for this world to stand in its fullness, we must build up the collapsed authority and authority one by one. It will then become a beautiful world in which God is pleased because of the restoration of the order established by God on earth. (Romans 13:1-2). The attitude Christians should take when authority is at wrong is not with violence and revolution, but to repay evil with good. We must know that this is God’s way. You can criticize when people make mistakes, but you should not hurt their personality. This is the right way of life of the saints.
3. The wisdom of using the enemy of the apostle Paul: Paul is now in a very difficult situation. It is a situation where people are trying to kill Paul. But in verse 6, we see that there is wisdom that God gives to Paul. Paul looked at the multitude who were trying to attack him. One side was the Sadducees, and the other side was the Pharisees. The Sadducees in today’s description were liberal theologians who did not believe in the resurrection, angels, or afterlife other than the Pentateuch. The Pharisees, on the other hand, were pious men who tried to keep the law too much and by doing so were rather hypocrites who focused on the outer appearance. Yet they were orthodox in their belief.
But Paul told them that he too was a Pharisee, and that he was persecuted because he believed in the resurrection. He made it possible for them to dispute among themselves. (Verses 6-10). Paul approached with such wisdom. Therefore, even if it is an enemy, a problem can be solved if you respect and acknowledge them rather than being hostile to them. Please learn this wisdom of Paul.
Concluding the sermon: It is important to learn the humility that acknowledges the wrongdoings as Paul did and to acknowledge the authority that comes from above, and to learn the wisdom to weaken the enemy rather than to blame the enemy. I believe that you will become servants of faith.
