제목: 십계명의 참된 가치 (1)

하나님이 이 모든 말씀으로 말씀하여 이르시되 나는 너를 애굽 땅, 종 되었던 집에서 인도하여 낸 네 하나님 여호와니라(출20:1-2)
십계명 강해 첫 번째 시간입니다. 십계명은 하나님께서 모세를 통해 출애굽한 이스라엘 백성들에게 주신 구원받은 하나님의 백성들이 이 땅을 살아가는 가장 핵심 되는 법이라고 말할 수 있습니다. 오늘 우리는 은혜의 시대에 살고 있지만 이 십계명이 우리의 신앙 생활에 얼마나 중요한 가를 살펴보는 시간을 갖고자 합니다.
1.십계명은 절대 기준입니다: 십계명은 출20장과 신5장에 기록되어 있습니다. 십계명은 하나님께서 제시하신 구원의 조건이 아닙니다. 십계명을 지켜야 구원을 받거나 하나님의 백성이 된다고 말하지 않았습니다. 오히려 하나님과 하나님의 백성 사이에 맺은 언약이라고 말할 수 있습니다. 언약이란 말은 하나님과 하나님의 백성 사이에 맺어진 약속입니다. 그러니까 십계명은 이미 하나님의 백성들이 된 사람들이 살아가는 삶의 양식인 것입니다. 다시 말해 구원받은 하나님의 자녀들이 어떻게 살아갈 것인가를 보여주는 정말 놓쳐서는 안될 기준이라고 말할 수 있습니다.
그래서 본문1절에 보면 “하나님이 이 모든 말씀으로 말씀하여 이르시되”라고 기록하고 있습니다. 이것은 십계명은 하늘로부터 임한 하나님이 주신 절대 기준임을 말씀하는 것입니다. 오늘 우리가 사는 이 시대는 수많은 위기로 가득차 있습니다. 그런데 진정한 위기 가운데 하나는 “기준”이 없어진 것입니다. 기준이 희미하거나 없어진 것입니다. 성경에 나오는 사사 시대가 그랬습니다. 삿21:25절에 보면 “그 때에 이스라엘에 왕이 없으므로 사람이 각기 자기의 소견에 옳은 대로 행하였더라” 이 구절이 사사기의 핵심 구절입니다. 자기 생각, 자기가 하고 싶은 대로 자기 소견대로 사는 시대였다는 것입니다. 왜요! 붙들어야 할 절대 기준이 없었기 때문입니다.
죄가 무엇입니까? 죄는 과녁을 벗어난 것이 죄입니다. 그러니까 기준에서 벗어난 것이 죄입니다. 특별히 오늘 우리가 사는 이 시대도 사사기 시대와 같이 기준을 무시하고 기준에서 벗어나 자기가 옳다고 믿는 것을 믿고 사는 시대입니다. 그래서 결국은 혼란이 오고 위기가 찾아오는 것입니다. 우리가 사는 이 땅도 가장 기본적인 가치가 무너졌습니다. 그래서 선과 악의 기준이 모호해졌습니다. 무엇이 선이고 무엇이 악인지를 판단하는 기준이 없어진 것입니다. 그러므로 죄와 악이란 단어 자체가 실종을 한 것입니다. 잘못된 것을 잘못되었다고, 그것이 죄라고, 악이라고 규정할 수 없는 것입니다. 정상과 비정상의 구분이 없어진 것입니다.
그래서 로마서에서 바울이 말씀했던 것처럼 “…순리대로 쓸 것을 바꾸어 역리로 쓰며…”(롬1:26-27) 모든 것이 왜곡되어 결혼이 왜곡되어 가정이 흔들린지 오래 된 것입니다. 왜요! 기준이 상실되었기 때문입니다. 왜 이렇게 기준이 상실되었습니까? 인간은 자기 마음대로 살면 그게 자유요 그게 행복이라고 생각하기 때문입니다. 그런데 기준이 분명하지 않으면 자유가 오는게 아니고 혼란과 혼돈이 옵니다. 왜 정치, 경제, 사회 모든 면에서 흔들립니까? 왜 삶들이 깨어지고 망가집니까? 우리를 지켜주는 절대적 기준을 다 차버렸기 때문입니다. 우리를 지켜주는 울타리를 오히려 불편하게 생각하기 때문입니다.
왜 십계명을 우리가 다시 깊이 묵상해야 하는 것입니까? 우리의 삶이 왜! 힘든지, 어디에서 잘못되었는지, 어디로 가야하는 지를 알 수 있게 해주는 기준이 바로 이 십계명이기 때문입니다. 십계명은 이 혼란의 시대에 방향 표시등과 같은 것입니다. 우리가 정말 하나님을 믿는다고 하면 우리는 우리의 신앙과 삶의 기준을 다시한번 확인해야 합니다. 십계명은 단순한 윤리 도덕적 규범이 아닙니다. 이 십계명은 하나님이 다스리는 나라의 백성들은 과연 어떤 자들인가 하는 정의를 내리는 “하나님이 주신 법”입니다. 이 십계명은 내가 바로 하나님의 백성이요, 하나님과 언약을 맺은 백성이라는 증거입니다(2절). 우리의 신앙 중심 메시지가 십계명 안에 있습니다. 종교 개혁자 마틴 루터는 “십계명을 온전히 아는 사람은 성경 전체를 아는 것이다” 라고 말했습니다. 그만큼 이 십계명은 성경 전체를 관통하는 핵심적인 메시지를 담고 있음을 꼭 기억하시기 바랍니다.
2.십계명은 축복을 주시기 위한 하나님의 명령이요 사랑입니다: 십계명은 영어로 “데칼로그”인데, “데카”라는 말은 희랍어에서 “열”이란 뜻이고, “로그(로고스)”는 “말씀”이란 뜻입니다. 그래서 십계명이란 “열 개의 말씀” “열 마디 말씀”이란 뜻입니다. 그런데 여기서 중요한 것은 십계명은 어떤 제안이나 권고가 아니고 명령이라는 것입니다. 명령은 엄중한 것입니다. 십계명은 하나님의 법이기 때문에 법을 어긴 사람에 대한 처벌조항과 경고가 있습니다. 대가를 치르게 되어 있습니다. 그러나 이 십계명의 진정한 의도는 징계나 형벌이 아니고 축복입니다.
신4-6장은 십계명을 해설해 놓은 장이라고 할 수 있는데, 거기에 보면 하나님의 축복의 의도가 분명히 드러납니다. “오늘 내가 네게 명령하는 여호와의 규례와 명령을 지키라 너와 네 후손이 복을 받아 네 하나님 여호와께서 네게 주시는 땅에서 한없이 오래 살리라”(신4:40) 이것이 십계명을 주신 하나님의 마음입니다. 그러나 이러한 축복을 누리기 위해서는 계명을 지켜야 한다는 중요한 전제가 있습니다. 이 하나님의 계명을 지키는 삶 없이는 축복을 누릴 수 없다는 것을 하나님이 분명히 말씀하신 것입니다(신6:24-25).
그런데 어떤 사람들은 이 십계명을 구시대의 유물처럼 여깁니다. 그러나 우리가 놓쳐서는 안될 것은 하나님의 진리는 시대를 막론하고 진리라는 사실입니다. 하나님은 언제나 하나님 이듯이 하나님이 하신 말씀도 언제나 영원합니다. 십계명은 시대가 변했다고 수정해야 할 내용이 아니라는 것입니다. 그리고 이 십계명은 10가지 제안이 아니라 하나님의 명령이요 이 기준을 제시하신 분이 하나님이시라는 것입니다. 그러므로 우리가 이 기준을 버리고 내 마음대로 살면 반드시 우리의 삶이 무너지게 되어 있다는 사실을 잊어서는 안됩니다.
말씀을 마칩니다: 십계명은 구원받은 하나님의 백성들에게 주신 기준입니다. 그러므로 우리가 가장 기초가 되는 이 하나님의 말씀 안에서 답을 찾지 않으면 우리의 모든 것은 미봉책이 되고 맙니다. 하나님은 부르심은 받은 우리가 세상을 닮은 자로 살아가는 것을 원치 않으십니다.
The True Value of the Ten Commandments (Part 1)

Title: The True Value of the Ten Commandments (Part 1)

‘And God spoke all these words: “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.”’ (Exodus 20:1-2 – NIV)
Today is the first expository sermon of the Ten Commandments. God gave the Ten Commandments through Moses to the Israelites who came out of Egypt. It can be said that the Ten Commandments was the most essential law given to the people of God who had been saved, as they lived on this earth. Although we live in an era of grace today, let us take a moment to look at how important the Ten Commandments are to our life of belief.
1. The Ten Commandments are the absolute truth: The Ten Commandments are written in Exodus 20 and Deuteronomy 5. The Ten Commandments are not a condition of salvation that God has suggested. He did not say that we would be saved or become God’s people only by keeping the Ten Commandments. Rather, it can be said to be a covenant between God and His people. The word covenant is a promise made between God and His people. Therefore, the Ten Commandments are the pattern of life of the people who have already become God’s people. In other words, it can be said that it is an essential standard that should not be missed, since it shows how the children of God who have been saved should live.
So, in verse 1 of today’s scripture, it says, “And God spoke all these words:“ This is saying that that the Ten Commandments are the absolute standard given by God from heaven. The era we live in today is filled with countless crises. But one of the real crises is that the “standard” is gone. Standards have dimmed or have disappeared. It was like this in the time of Judges in the Bible. According to Judges 21:25 it says, “In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as he saw fit.” This is the key verse in the Book of Judges. It was a time when they lived according to their own thoughts, opinions and as they saw fit. Why was this? It was because there was no absolute standard to hold on to.
What is sin? Sin is a thing that has gone off the target. So, sin is a thing that has deviated from the standard. In particular, this era in which we live today is an era similar to the time of Judges, where we have ignored the standards and deviated from them and believe in what we think is right. Thus, in the end, chaos, disorder, and crisis comes. Our most basic value has collapsed in this world we live in. So, the standard of good and evil has become vague. There is no standard for determining what is good and what is evil. Therefore, the words sin and evil themselves are missing. We cannot say what is wrong as wrong, and we cannot mention what is sin or evil. The distinction between normal and abnormal has been lost.
Thus, as Paul said in the Book of Romans, “…exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones…” (Romans 1:26-27). Family has been shaken for a long time, since everything has been distorted and marriage has been distorted. Why is this? This is because the standards have been lost. Why have the standards been lost? Humans think that freedom and happiness is when they live according to their own way. But if the standards are not clear, freedom does not come, but instead disorder and chaos. Why is politics, economy and society shaken in all aspects? Why are lives broken and ruined? It is because we have kicked out the absolute standards that protect us. It is because we feel rather uncomfortable with the fence that protects us.
Why do we have to deeply meditate on the Ten Commandments again? It is because the Ten Commandments gives us the standard that allows us to determine why our lives are difficult, and where it has gone wrong, and where we should go. The Ten Commandments are like the signs of direction in this time of chaos. If we really believe in God, we must double check our belief and standards of life. The Ten Commandments are not just simply ethics, morals, or regulations. The Ten Commandments are “God-given laws” that define the people in the Kingdom that God rules in. These Ten Commandments are proof that we are God’s people and have made a covenant with God (verse 2). The central message of our belief is in the Ten Commandments. Martin Luther, the reformer said, “Anyone who knows the Ten Commandments perfectly knows the entire Scriptures.” As such, it is important to remember that these Ten Commandments contain a key message that penetrates the entire Bible.
2. The Ten Commandments are God’s commands and love to bless: In English, the Ten Commandments is “decalogue”. The word “deca” means “ten” in Greek, and “logue (logos)” means “word”. So, the ten commandments mean, “the ten most important words of God”. But the important thing here is that the Ten Commandments are commands, and not any suggestions or recommendations. The commands are enormous. Since the Ten Commandments are God’s laws, there are punishment and warnings for those who break the laws. You will have to pay the price for breaking the law. However, the true intention of the Ten Commandments is not discipline or punishment, but blessing.
Deuteronomy chapters 4 to 6 can be viewed as the chapters that describes the Ten Commandments, which clearly reveals the intention of God’s blessing. “Keep His decrees and commands, which I am giving you today, so that it may go well with you and your children after you and that you may live long in the land the Lord your God gives you for all time.” (Deuteronomy 4:40). This is the heart of God who gave the Ten Commandments. However, there is an important premise that we need to keep the commandments in order to enjoy these blessings. God clearly said that we cannot enjoy the blessings without the life of keeping the commandments of God (Deuteronomy 6:24-25).
However, some consider the Ten Commandments like the antiquities. But what we should not miss is the fact that God’s truth is true regardless of the age or era. As God is always God, God’s Words are always eternal. The Ten Commandments are not something that needs to be corrected as the times changes. Also, the Ten Commandments are not 10 suggestions, but God’s commands and it is God who presented this standard. Therefore, we must not forget the fact that if we abandon this standard and live according to our own will, our lives will be destroyed.
Concluding the sermon: The Ten Commandments are a standard given to the people of God who have been saved. Therefore, if we do not find an answer in this most basic Word of God, everything of us will become unsettled. As people who have been called by God, He does not want us to live as those resembling the world.
