믿음으로 유월절과 피 뿌리는 예식을 정하였으니 이는 장자를 멸하는 자로 그들을 건드리지 않게 하려 한 것이며 (히 11:28)
히11장, 믿음장 강해 16번째 시간입니다. 성경은 많은 지면을 할애해서 모세의 믿음을 소중하게 다루고 있습니다. 오늘 본문은 지난 주에 이어 모세가 노예로 고통받고 있는 이스라엘 백성들을 데리고 애굽을 떠나는 과정에서 보여준 모세의 믿음에 대한 말씀입니다. 지난 주에 이어 모세의 믿음의 특징을 통하여 성경에서 말하는 믿음이 무엇인가? 살펴보고자 합니다.
1. 참된 믿음은 어린 양의 피, 곧 예수 그리스도의 보혈의 능력을 받아 들이는 것입니다: 히브리서 기자는 모세가 유월절 피 뿌리는 예식을 정한 것도 그의 믿음으로 이루어졌다고 증언하고 있습니다(28절) 여기서 “피 뿌리는 예식”이란 흠 없는 어린 양의 피를 이스라엘 백성이 머물고 있는 집의 좌우 문설주와 인방에 바르는 것으로 오늘 본문은 출12장에 언급된 유월절 사건을 배경으로 하고 있습니다.
여러분! 왜 유월절 예식을 정하는 것에 믿음이 필요한 것입니까? 그 이유는 하나님께서 죽음의 사자를 보내어 애굽의 장자를 죽이실 것이라는 말씀을 믿는 믿음이 필요할 뿐만 아니라 또 그 재앙을 피하기 위해서는 어린 양을 잡아 그 피를 문설주와 인방에 뿌려야 한다는 말씀을 믿는 믿음이 필요하기 때문입니다. 따라서 하나님의 말씀에 대한 믿음이 없이는 결코 정할 수 없는 것이 바로 이 유월절 의식이기 때문에 히브리서 기자는 모세가 믿음으로 했다고 말하고 있는 것입니다.
유월절은 이스라엘 백성에게 있어서 가장 중요한 사건입니다. 출애굽 사건이 중요한 것은 유월절이 있기 때문이라고 말해야 할 만큼 출애굽과 유월절은 밀접한 관계가 있습니다. 유월절은 애굽 사람들에게는 모든 초태생이 죽는 참혹한 재앙의 날이지만 반면 이스라엘 백성들에게는 430년 애굽의 종살이에서 해방되는 날이었습니다. 이 축복과 저주의 갈림길이 어디에서 비롯되었습니까? 바로 어린 양의 피를 발랐느냐, 안 발랐느냐에서 갈라졌습니다. 하나님은 유월절 어린 양의 피를 바른 사람이 애굽 사람인지 이스라엘 사람인지를 구별하시지는 않았습니다. 단지 믿음으로 어린 양의 피를 발랐느냐 안 발랐느냐만 보셨습니다.
그 믿음에 따라서 결과가 판이하게 달라진 것입니다. 원래 유월절이라는 말은 히브리어 “폐싸흐”에서 나온 말로 영어로는 “Passover” 입니다. “넘어갈 유에 넘어갈 월”입니다. 재앙이 넘어가고 넘어간다고 해서 유월절입니다. 여기서 우리가 주목해야 할 것은 이 장자 죽음은 하나님이 이스라엘은 죽어서는 안되는 존재로 구별하지 않으셨다는 것입니다. 만약 이스라엘이 죽어서는 안되는 존재로 구별되었다면 죽음의 천사가 이스라엘을 방문한 일은 아예 없었을 것입니다. 그런데 죽음의 천사가 이스라엘 진영에도 왔다는 것은 이스라엘도 죽음에서 예외가 아님을 뜻하는 것입니다. 그들도 동일하게 죽어야 할 존재라는 것입니다. 죽음의 천사 앞에서 그들이 할 수 있는 것은 아무 것도 없었습니다. 그저 어린 양의 피를 뿌렸을 뿐입니다. 그런데 그 피가 그들을 살리는 능력이 되었던 것입니다.
2. 참된 믿음은 하나님 말씀을 의심없이 받아들이고 순종하는 것입니다: 이처럼 바로 앞에서 모세가 행한 열 번째 재앙은 장자 죽음 재앙입니다. 이 때 바로가 항복했습니다. 애굽의 모든 장자가 죽었지만 이스라엘 백성에게는 그 재앙이 미치지 않았습니다. 어린 양을 잡아 그 피를 문절주와 인방에 발랐기 때문입니다. 이 피를 본 하나님의 사자는 그 집을 넘었갔습니다. 그래서 유월절입니다. 그런데 만일 이스라엘 사람 중에 어떤 사람이 이것을 미신이라고 생각해서 어린 양의 피를 바르지 않았다면 비록 이스라엘 백성이라 할지라도 그 집의 장자는 반드시 죽었을 것입니다. 중요한 것은 어린 양의 피입니다. 모세는 어린 양의 피의 능력에 대하여 확신했고 하나님이 주신 그 구원의 방도를 백성에게 알려 주었고, 믿음으로 받아들인 백성들은 어린 양의 피의 능력을 체험할 수 있었던 것입니다.
믿음이 무엇입니까? 우리가 정말 하나님을 믿는다고 하면 죽음도 어찌 하지 못하는 이 피의 능력을 믿어야 합니다. 이 믿음이 있으면 정말 죽음조차 두려움의 대상이 되지 않는다 라는 것입니다. 어린 양의 피는 십자가에서 흘리신 예수님의 보혈을 의미합니다. 그러므로 피를 믿는 것은 죽어 마땅한 자가 생명을 얻었음을 믿는 것이고, 세상의 그 어떤 세력도 나를 사망으로 이끌어 가지 못함을 믿는 것입니다. 그래서 세상에 대한 두려움이 많다는 것은 우리가 이 피에 대한 확신이 없기 때문입니다. 정말 피를 믿는 자는 세상이 감당하지 못합니다. 그러므로 우리는 십자가만 자랑해야 합니다.
그러므로 모세의 믿음의 핵심은 인간이 아무리 아름다운 것을 추구한다 할지라도 어린 양의 피가 없으면 아무 것도 아니다 라는 것입니다. 하나님께서 보시는 것은 딱 하나! 어린 양의 피! 그 피를 의지하지 않으면 우리는 살 길이 없다 라는 것입니다(행4:12) 이 신양을 가진 성도가 해야 할 일이 무엇입니까? 어린 양의 피의 은혜가 필요한 사람을 예수께로 데리고 나오는 것입니다. 우리가 감히 다른 사람의 영혼을 책임지려고 하면 안된다는 것입니다. 우리가 다른 사람의 죄를 속할 수 없다는 것입니다. 예수께 데리고 나오는 이 신앙이 중요하다 라는 것입니다. 또 한 가지 모세의 믿음은 아직 성취되지 않고 보이지도 않은 미래의 일임에도 그것이 신실하신 하나님의 말씀이기 때문에 의심없이 믿고 행했다 라는 것입니다. 따라서 믿음이란 하나님이 무엇을 말씀하시든 확신 갖고 순종하는 것입니다.
말씀을 마칩니다: 모세가 하나님 말씀하신 오직 어린 양의 피 한 가지 붙들고 승리했습니다. 성령 강림 주일에 우리도 이 놀라운 구원의 원리를 붙들었으면 의심하지 마시고 오직 말씀 붙들고 예수 그리스도의 십자가 붙드는 거룩한 하나님의 종들이 되시기를 바랍니다.

Title: The Faith of Moses (3)

“By faith he kept the Passover and the application of blood, so that the destroyer of the firstborn would not touch the firstborn of Israel.” (Hebrews 11:28 – NIV)
Today is the 16th series of the Book of Hebrews, chapter 11, the chapter of faith. The Bible uses many verses in the Bible to emphasize the preciousness of Moses’ faith. Following from last week, today’s scripture is about the faith of Moses which was shown through the process of leaving Egypt with the Israelites, who were suffering as slaves in Egypt. Following from last week, let’s take a look at what is the faith spoken in the Bible through the characteristics of Moses’ faith.
1. True faith is to believe and accept the blood of the Lamb, the power of the blood of Jesus Christ: The writer of the Book of Hebrews testifies that it was through Moses’ faith that he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of blood (verse 28). Here, “the sprinkling of blood” is the application of the blood of the lamb without defect, on the sides and tops of the doorframes of the houses of the Israelites, and as such, the background of today’s scripture is the Passover mentioned in Exodus 12.
Everyone! Why do we need faith in keeping the Passover? The reason is not only so that we need to have the faith of believing in the Word of God that He will send the messenger of death to kill the firstborn of Egypt, but also because we need to have the faith of believing in the Word of God of taking the blood of the lamb and to put it on the sides and tops of the doorframes of the houses to avoid the plague. Therefore, the writer of the Hebrew says that Moses did it by faith, because the Passover was something that could not be kept without the faith in the Word of God.
The Passover is the most important event for the Israelites. To the extent that it can be said that the Exodus event is important because of the Passover, Exodus and Passover are closely related. Passover was a terrible disaster for the Egyptians, in which all the firstborn died, while Passover was the day when the Israelites were liberated from 430 years of slavery in Egypt. Where did the crossroads of this blessing and curse come from? It was divided based on whether the blood of the lamb was applied or not. God did not distinguish between whether the blood of the Passover Lamb was applied to an Egyptian or to an Israelite. Instead, He just saw if they put on the blood of the lamb by faith or not.
The results became quite different according to their faith. Originally, the word Passover comes from the Hebrew word, “pesah”, which is “Passover” in English. In Chinese characters, “Yoo”, means Passover and “Wal”, means Passover.” It is called the Passover because the disaster has passed. What we should note here is that, God did not distinguish the Israelites as those who should not die from the firstborn death. If Israel were distinguished as those not to die, then the angel of death would never have visited Israel. However, the fact that the angel of death visited the camp of Israel, meant that Israel was no exception from death. It meant that they were human beings who were to die as well. There was nothing they could do before the angel of death. All they did was just sprinkled the blood of the lamb. However, the blood became the power to save them.
2. True faith is to accept and obey the Word of God without doubt: Thus, the tenth plague that Moses did before Pharaoh was the plague of the death of the first-born death. Pharaoh surrendered at this time. All the firstborn sons of Egypt died, but the plague did not reach the Israelites. It was because the lamb was caught, and the blood was put on the sides and tops of the doorframes of the houses. The Angel of God who saw this blood passed over the house. So that is why it is called the Passover. However, if any of the Israelites did not believe this and thought that this was a superstition and thus, did not put the blood of the lamb, then the firstborn in the house would have died, even if they were Israelites. What is important is the blood of the lamb. Moses was convinced of the power of the blood of the lamb, and he told the people the way of salvation from God. So, that is the reason why the people who accepted this by faith were able to experience the power of the blood of the lamb.
What is faith? If we really believe in God, we must believe in the power of this blood, which even death cannot do anything about. If we have this faith, we do not become fearful of even death. The blood of the lamb represents the blood of Jesus that was shed on the cross. Therefore, believing in the blood means believing that a person deserving death has obtained life, and believing that no power in the world can lead me to death. So if we have a lot of fear of the world, it is because we are not certain about this blood. The world cannot handle those who really believe in the blood. Therefore, we must boast only of the cross.
Therefore, the essence of Moses’ faith is that no matter how beautiful are the things that humans pursue, they are nothing without the blood of the Lamb. There is only one thing God sees and that is the blood of the Lamb! If we do not rely on the blood, we have no way to live (Acts 4:12). What should the believers do with this belief? We should bring someone who needs the grace of the blood of the Lamb to Jesus. We should not dare try to take responsibility for the souls of others. We cannot redeem others from their sins. What is important is the belief to bring others to Jesus. Another thing of Moses’ faith was that he believed and acted without doubt, even though it was a future that was not yet fulfilled or could be seen, just because it was the Word of the faithful God. Therefore, faith means being confident and obeying whatever God says.
Concluding the sermon: Moses held on to only one thing that God said, and that was the blood of the Lamb. And because of this, he triumphed. On Whitsunday, I hope that that we can be servants of the holy God, who hold on to this amazing way of salvation, and not doubt, but instead only hold on to the Word of God and to the cross of Jesus Christ.
