제목: 너는 복이 될지라

여호와께서 아브람에게 이르시되 너는 너의 고향과 친척과 아버지의 집을 떠나 내가 네게 보여 줄 땅으로 가라 내가 너로 큰 민족을 이루고 네게 복을 주어 네 이름을 창대하게 하리니 너는 복이 될지라(창12:1-2)
2019년 신년 새해가 시작이 되었습니다. 매년 새해가 되면 사람들이 가장 많이 생각하고 기대하는 것이 있습니다. 그것은 “복”입니다. 오늘 우리는 신년 새해가 축복된 한 해가 되기 위해서 아브람을 향해서 “너는 복이 될지라” 선포하신 이 말씀이 동일하게 우리의 삶이 되기 위해서 붙들어야 할 것이 무엇인가? 함께 살펴보고자 합니다.
1.거룩이 복의 시작입니다: 본문 1절을 보면 하나님께서 아브람에게 고향, 친척, 아버지의 집을 떠나라 말씀하십니다. 왜 떠나야 합니까? 예수를 믿으면 다 고향 친척 아버지 집을 떠나야 합니까? 그렇지 않습니다. 사실 믿음이 없어도 고향 친척 아버지 집을 떠나는 사람들 참 많습니다. 그런데 왜 하나님은 아브람에게 떠나라 말씀하십니까? 아브람의 고향은 우상 숭배의 도시였습니다. 또 아버지 데라는 우상을 숭배하는 아버지였기 때문에 떠나라 말씀하신 것입니다.(수24:2)
이처럼 믿음의 출발은 반드시 우리에게 분리를 요구합니다. 왜냐하면 믿음은 인생의 주인이 나에게서 하나님으로 바뀌는 것이기 때문에 반드시 떠남과 분리를 요구합니다. 이렇게 세상과 구별됨을 성경은 “거룩”이라고 말하고 거룩하게 구별된 무리를 “성도”라고 합니다. 그러므로 거룩은 하나님이 하나님의 백성된 우리에게 명하시는 가장 첫 번째 신앙의 우선 순위입니다. 거룩이 무엇입니까? 거룩은 단순히 착하게 사는 것이 거룩이 아닙니다. 거룩은 구별되는 것입니다.
그래서 구약 성경에 보면 성전에서 사용되는 그릇들이 거룩한 이유는 그 그릇이 금으로 만들고 깨끗하게 닦아서 거룩한게 아니라 세상의 그릇과 구별되어서 거룩한 것입니다. 마찬가지로 세상 속에서 살되 세상과 섞이지 않고 구별되는 것! 이것을 성경에서는 다른 말로 “거룩”이라고 부릅니다. 성경에는 이 거룩이라는 단어가 무려 600번 이상 나옵니다. 그러면 하나님은 우리에게 왜 이렇게 거룩을 강조하십니까? 그것은 우리 하나님이 거룩하신 하나님이시기 때문입니다. “너희는 나에게 거룩할지어다 이는 나 여호와가 거룩하고 내가 또 너희를 나의 소유로 삼으려고 너희를 만민 중에서 구별하였음이니라”(레20:26)
여러분! 우리가 믿는 하나님은 어떤 분이십니까? 하나님의 속성 중에 근본이 되는 속성이 있습니다. 그 중에 가장 핵심이 되는 속성이 “거룩”입니다. 그래서 성경은 도처에서 “내가 거룩하니 너희도 거룩할지어다”(레11:44-45) 말씀합니다. 잘 보십시요. 아브람이 하란에서 아버지와 형제들과 함께 머무르고 있는 동안에는 그의 영혼에 아무런 계시가 없었습니다. 그런데 왜 아브람의 이야기가 창세기12장에서부터 나옵니까? 왜 아브람의 나이 75세 이전의 이야기는 성경에 기록되어 있지 않습니까? 아브람이 자연인으로 있을 때 아브람은 그냥 낳고 낳고 중의 한 사람이었습니다. 그러나 그가 하나님의 말씀에 순종하여 세상과 구별된 삶을 살기로 할 때 비로서 아브람이 성경에 등장하는 것입니다.
그러므로 믿음은 다르게 살 수 있는 용기입니다. 술 마시는 세상에 “술 안 마시는 것” 이렇게 다르게 살 수 있는 용기가 바로 믿음입니다. 이렇게 세상 속에서 살되 세상과 섞이지 않고 분리되는 것! 이것을 성경은 “거룩”이라고 합니다. 요즘 교회가 그렇게 힘을 잃어가고, 예수 믿는 사람들이 욕을 먹습니까? 거룩을 잃어버렸기 때문입니다. 잊지 마십시요. 성도는 구별된 삶을 살아야 합니다. 세상의 방식대로 사는 것이 아니라 하나님의 방식대로 사는 것이 “거룩”입니다. 신년 새해에 우리가 복을 받고 문제 해결을 위해 하나님이 우리에게 요구하시는 것은 “거룩”입니다. 세상의 방식, 세상의 원리를 다 제거하라는 것입니다. 이 거룩을 유지할 때 아브람이 비로서 믿음의 조상이 되고 복이 될 수 있었던 것입니다.(2-3절)
2.순종이 축복으로 가는 지름길입니다: 아브람이 하나님께 부르심을 받았을 때 아브람의 나이가 75세 였습니다. 사실 이 75세라는 나이는 무엇을 다시 시작하고 도전할 수 있는 나이가 아닙니다. 그런데 아브람은 이 납득할 수 없는 하나님의 명령에 묻지도 않고 고향 친척 아버지 집을 아무 대책도 없이 그냥 떠납니다.(4절) 히브리서 기자는 이것을 주석하면서 그는 “갈 바도 알지 못하고 나아갔으며”(히11:8)라고 말합니다. 인간적으로 볼 때는 도무지 이해가 가지 않는 행동입니다. 왜요? 생각 없는 사람이기 때문입니까? 아닙니다. 믿음 때문이었습니다. 그래서 떠나라 하시니 그냥 떠난 것입니다.
그렇습니다. 때론 하나님의 말씀은 인간의 이성으로는 도무지 이해되지 않을 때가 있습니다. 아브람도 아마 이해가 되어서 떠난 것은 아닐 것입니다. 그러나 하나님의 말씀이기에 믿은 것입니다. 여러분! 이처럼 믿으면 반드시 행하게 되어 있습니다. 우리도 아브람과 같이 똑같이 예수를 믿는데 왜 이렇게 복된 삶을 살지 못합니까? 그것은 우리가 듣기는 하면서도 순종하지 않고 결정적인 순간에는 하나님 저버리고 스스로 길을 찾고 세상 사람들이 사는 식으로 세상에서 길을 찾기 때문입니다. 우리는 머리로 이해되고 납득이 되는 것만 순종하고 살았기 때문입니다. 말 안되는 것 다 거절하였기 때문입니다. 여기에 불행의 원인이 있는 것입니다. 잊지 마십시요. 납득이 되는 것만 순종하고 살면 대가 지불도 없지만 영적인 풍요도 없습니다. 순종이 축복을 여는 길입니다.
말씀을 마칩니다: 복의 통로가 되려면 아브람처럼 떠나야만 합니다. 믿음은 분리를 요구합니다. 이 분리됨이 거룩입니다. 거룩은 하나님이 복의 통로가 되기 위해 우리에게 명하신 가장 먼저 우리가 회복해야 할 신앙의 우선 순위입니다. 그러므로 신년 새해에는 행복해지려고 노력하지 말고 거룩해지도록 노력하십시요. 순종이 축복으로 가는 지름길입니다. 하나님이 말씀하시면 내 생각과 달라도 혹 이해가 되지 않아도 믿고 순종하십시요. 순종으로 모든 축복의 증인들이 되시기 바랍니다.
You Will Be a Blessing

Title: You Will Be a Blessing

“The Lord had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you. I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others.” (Gen. 12:1-2 – NLT)
The new year of 2019 has begun. Each new year, there is something that people think about the most and expect the most. It is “blessing”. In order for us to have a blessed new year, we will look at the message given to Abraham “you will be a blessing” and we will look at what we need to hold onto in order to have this same message applied to our lives. Let’s look at it together.
1. Holiness is the beginning of blessing: In verse 1, God tells Abraham to leave his hometown, relatives, and his father’s house. Why did he have to leave? Do you have to leave your hometown, relatives, and your father’s house, if you believe in Jesus? No, it is not like that. In fact, there are many people who leave their father’s house, even if they do not have faith. But, why does God tell Abraham to leave? Abraham’s hometown was a city of idolatry. And his father Terah was a person who worshiped idols, and so that is why God told Abraham to leave. (Josh. 24:2)
Thus, the step to faith requires separation from us. This is because faith is about changing the master of my life from myself to God, and thus that is why it requires separation from us. The Bible calls “holiness” being distinguished from the rest of the world, and it also refers to a group of people that is sanctified as “the saints.” Therefore, holiness is the first priority to faith that God gives to us as His people. What is holiness? Holiness is not simply to live kindly. Instead, holiness is about being distinguished.
Therefore, in the Old Testament, the vessels used in the temple were holy not because they were made out of gold and were clean, but instead they were holy because they had been distinguished from the vessels of the world. Likewise, when we live in the world, not being mixed with the world, is what makes us distinguished and this is what the Bible calls “holiness”. In the Bible, the word “holy” appears over 600 times. So then why does God emphasize holiness to us? It is because our God is a holy God. “You must be holy because I, the Lord, am holy. I have set you apart from all other people to be my very own.” (Lev. 20:26)
Everyone! Who is the God we believe in? There is a fundamental attribute to the attributes of God. The most important attribute among them is “holiness“. So that is why the Bible says everywhere, “be holy, because I am holy.” (Lev. 11: 44-45). Let’s take a look carefully. While Abraham was staying with his father and brothers in Haran, there was no revelation in his soul. But why does the story of Abraham begin from Genesis chapter 12? How come the Bible does not write about the story of Abraham before he was 75 years old? When Abraham was a natural man, he was just one of the many people being born after another. However, when he starts to obey the Word of God and lives a life separated and distinguished from the rest of the world, from that point is when Abraham starts appearing in the Bible.
Therefore, faith is the courage to live differently. “To not drink” in a world when the majority of the people drink – this is the courage to live differently, which is faith. As we live in this world, without being mixed with the world – this is what the Bible calls “holiness”. Why do churches lose their strength these days and why do those who believe in Jesus Christ get criticized? This is because we have lost holiness. Please do not forget. The saints must live a distinguished life. “Holiness” is to live according to God’s way, instead of the worldly way. In order for us to have a blessed new year and to have our problems resolved, God requires us to be holy. It means that we should remove all our worldly ways and worldly principles. When Abraham maintained this holiness, that is when he could become an ancestor and a blessing (verses 2-3).
2. Obedience is the shortcut to blessing: Abraham was 75 years old when he was called by God. In fact, the age of 75 is not an age where you start something again or challenge something. But despite this, Abraham left his father’s house in his hometown, without questioning God, or setting any plans, nor understand God’s order at that time (v. 4). The writer of the book of Hebrews commented on this, “He went without knowing where he was going.” (Heb. 11:8). It is an act that cannot be understood through our human logic. Why is this so? Was it because Abraham was a person who had no thought? No, it is not. Instead, it was because of faith. So he left because God told him to leave.
That is right. There are times when we cannot understand at all the Word of God by our human reasoning. Abraham probably did not leave because he had understood. But instead he believed because it was God’s Word. Everyone! In the same way, if we believe, we must also do it. Why is that we cannot live such a blessed life like Abraham did? It is because although we listen, we do not obey, and at the crucial moments, we leave God behind and instead try to find the road by ourselves like the way that worldly people do so. We tend to only live in obedience only when we understand with our head, logic and through reasoning. And we refuse everything that does not make sense. This is the cause of misfortune. Please do not forget. If you live only by obeying what you understand, you do not have to pay anything, but there will be no spiritual richness or blessings. Obedience is the way to open blessings.
Concluding the message: In order for us to become a blessing, we must leave like Abraham did. Faith requires separation. This separation is holiness. Holiness is the first priority of faith that we must restore, which God has commanded us in order to become a blessing. Therefore, in the New Year, let us not try to aim in being happy, but instead try to be holy. Obedience is the shortcut to blessings. Let’s obey God when He speaks to us, even if it may be different from our thoughts or even if we cannot seem to understand it. Through obedience, I hope that you may all become witnesses of all blessings.
